Overview
Baoguo Qaghan is the last ruler of the Ganzhou Uyghurs recorded with the qaghan title. The record is thin: the Chinese histories give little more than the embassies sent and the title received.
Rise to Power
He became qaghan in 1028, the year the Tanguts took Ganzhou.
Rule and Achievements
- Led the Uyghurs of the Hexi Corridor as Guazhou (1030) and Shazhou (1036) fell to the Tanguts
Legacy
His end is uncertain: one account has him take his own life in 1032. By 1036 the Western Xia of Li Yuanhao held the whole corridor. Uyghur communities survived under Tangut rule and kept sending trade missions to the Song; their descendants are the Yellow Uyghurs (Yugur) of Gansu.
