Overview

Dorjsürenkhoroljab was the last Tüsheet Khan, holding the title Ochirai Bat Tüsheet Khan from 1912 to 1923. He succeeded Dashnyam in the year after Mongolia declared independence from the Qing, and held the title through the Bogd Khan era and the revolution of 1921. In 1923 the Tüsheet Khan aimag was renamed Bogd Khan Uulyn aimag, ending a title that Abtai Sain Khan's line had held since the 1580s. Sources record little of his own acts.

Rise to Power

He succeeded Dashnyam as Tüsheet Khan in 1912.

Rule and Achievements

  • Held the Tüsheet Khan title from 1912 to 1923, the last of eighteen khans in Abtai Sain Khan's line
  • Ruled the central Khalkha aimag, home to the capital Khüree and the Bogd Khan's court, during the years of independence
  • Saw the aimag renamed Bogd Khan Uulyn aimag in 1923, after the revolution of 1921

Legacy

Dorjsürenkhoroljab closes a line of more than three centuries. The title that began with Abtai's meeting with the Dalai Lama ended not in defeat but in quiet abolition, as revolutionary Mongolia replaced hereditary aimags with a new administration.
