Overview
Hasan, also called Harun, son of Sulayman, ruled the Eastern Khanate as Tabghach Bughra Khan from the mid-1070s to 1102. He gave the Eastern Khanate its longest stable reign and extended it east to Kucha.
Rise to Power
He came to power after Umar's brief reign. The coin record dates his reign 1080–1092 and places Jibra'il, son of Umar, after him in the east.
Rule and Achievements
- Extended the Eastern Khanate eastward to Kucha
- Yusuf of Balasagun presented the Kutadgu Bilig to a Tabghach Bughra Khan at Kashgar; scholars usually identify him with Hasan
- Acknowledged the overlordship of Malik-Shah after the Seljuk campaign of 1089; the Eastern khans were Seljuk vassals only briefly
Legacy
He died in 1102 and was succeeded by his son Ahmad. In the same years Mahmud al-Kashgari, a member of the dynasty, wrote in Baghdad his Diwan Lughat al-Turk, the first comprehensive dictionary of the Turkic languages.
