Overview

Murong Fuyun, Busabo Qaghan, ruled the Tuyuhun from 597 to 635. He married his brother's widow, the Sui princess Guanghua, but clashed repeatedly with the Sui and then the Tang.

Rise to Power

The people raised him after his brother Shifu was killed in 597.

Rule and Achievements

  • Was driven from his lands by Emperor Yang of Sui in 608–609, after the Sui turned the Tiele against him, and recovered them after the Sui collapse
  • Raided Tang frontier prefectures from 622

Legacy

In 635 the Tang general Li Jing invaded the Tuyuhun. Fuyun fled into the desert and died; the sources say either that his own men killed him or that he took his own life. His son Murong Shun succeeded him under Tang sponsorship.
