Overview

Ashina Buzhen, a cousin and long-time rival of Ashina Mishe, was made Jiwangjue Qaghan over the five Nushibi tribes in 657, under the Mengchi Protectorate.

Rise to Power

He failed to win recognition from the Dulu tribes in the 640s and submitted to the Tang.

Rule and Achievements

  • Ruled the Nushibi tribes for the Tang from 657
  • Accused Mishe of plotting rebellion in 662, leading to Mishe's death

Legacy

Buzhen died in the 660s; sources give 662 or 667. With both Tang qaghans gone, the western tribes turned to Tibet, and Tang control of the Tarim weakened sharply. His son Huseluo later held his title.
