Overview
Dechinjav held the title Jasagh khoshoi chin van Sain Noyon from 1733 to 1772, one of the longest tenures in the Sain Noyon line. His years coincided with the final Qing wars against the Dzungar Khanate, which ended with its destruction in the 1750s, and with the long Qianlong-era peace that followed. Sources record little of his own acts.
Rise to Power
He held the title from 1733, in the generation after the Sain Noyon aimag was created in 1725.
Rule and Achievements
- Held the Sain Noyon princely title for nearly forty years, from 1733 to 1772
- Governed the central Khalkha aimag through the last Qing–Dzungar wars and the destruction of the Dzungar Khanate
- Ruled within the Qing system, under which the Sain Noyon rulers held the rank of khoshoi chin van rather than khan
Legacy
Dechinjav's long tenure marks the settled middle period of Qing rule in Khalkha. Once the Dzungars were gone, the Khalkha princes' military value to the empire declined, and their role became increasingly administrative.
