Overview

Dalanjargalan covers about 4,100 km² of Dornogovi. Its centre is Olon Ovoo station on the Trans-Mongolian Railway between Ulaanbaatar and Beijing, and it has five bags: Bichigt, Eldev, Olon-Ovoo, Tsomog and Ungut. The Eldev coal mine lies 21 km north of the centre, and there is an abandoned Soviet air force base.

Ikh Nart Nature Reserve, created in 1996, spans Dalanjargalan and Airag soums. Its rock outcrops and ravines shelter the rare argali wild sheep, Siberian ibex, gazelles and 125 bird species, including vultures.
