Overview

Erdene covers 8,039 km² east of Ulaanbaatar and is divided into five bags: Bayantuul, Chuluut, Khushinga, Tamgan and Uguumur. The statistics office counts it in its Ulaanbaatar region, but it is part of Töv aimag.

At Tsonjin Boldog, on the bank of the Tuul river about 54 km east of the city, stands the Genghis Khan Equestrian Statue, raised in 2008 for the 800th anniversary of the Mongol Empire. The Janchivlin and Ar Janchivlin resorts, on mineral springs, lie about 20 km southwest of the soum centre.
