History

The statue stands at Tsonjin Boldog, about a mile from the Tuul river, where legend says Genghis Khan found a golden whip, a sign of good fortune. It was erected in 2008 to mark the 800th anniversary of the founding of the Mongol Empire in 1206.

The figure is 40 metres tall and made of stainless steel; it was designed by the sculptor D. Erdenebileg and the architect J. Enkhjargal. It stands on a visitor centre 10 metres high with 36 columns, one for each khan from Genghis Khan to Ligdan Khan.
